The Freight village Toscano A. Vespucci is located in Guasticce, in the municipality of Collesalvetti in the centre of northern Tuscany. The Tuscan freight village is pivotal in the North South connection. When viewed in its proximity to the multipurpose port of Livorno and Pisa and Florence airports, it becomes clear that it offers integrated logistics systems, and connects with the principle Mediterranean and European markets.
The freight village is connected to the Tyrrhenian motorway, on the Pisa-Florence, the La Spezia-Parma and Tyrrhenian Brennero routes. The road network leading to the Livorno node include:
- northbound the A12-A15 motorway and SS 1 Aurelia state road;
- southbound the SS 1 Aurelia and the SS 206 Collesalvetti state roads;
- eastbound the A11 Florence-coastal motorway, the SS 66-67bis and SS555 state roads, and the SGC Firenze-Pisa-Livorno highway to which it is directly connected.
.
The rail terminal at the freight village is connected to the lines running north and south on the main Tyrrhenian and Apennine networks.This network comprises two parallel lines:
- The Genoa-Pisa-Livorno-Rome
- The Milan-Bologna-Florence-Rome and the Pisa-Florence link.
With regard to the airport and port systems, the freight village has strategic connections for Tuscany; the various ports have distinct but complementary characteristics that combine to satisfy the Tuscan market:
- Marina di Carrara (for the transportation of stone)
- Viareggio (with its shipyards and maritime supplies)
- Piombino (for its steelworks and various goods)
- Livorno (container, bulk and coasting traffic,)
Thanks to its strategic location the Interporto A. Vespucci is pivotal for the Tuscan Coastline and its local markets and industries exploiting the excellent infrastructures running from Livorno, Pisa, Lucca e Massa Carrara.
Of special importance are the short distances to important logistics centres:
4 km from Livorno port,
12 km Pisa’s G.Galilei airport
80 km Florence’s Vespucci airport.
